2024 Firefighter and First Responder
Participation and Awards Categories

The Firefighter Challenge awards are meant to create friendly competition and comradery amongst our firefighter participants. We try to offer as many participation options as possible. The Lung Association staff reserves the right to change awards categories and rules based on number of participants in given categories.

Team Awards

To qualify for team awards, you must have a minimum of FOUR participants competing in the same category (i.e. four firefighters in full-gear AND on-air, four ultimate junior / explorers, etc.). For teams with more than FOUR participants in the same category, only the four fastest times will count towards team awards.

We will only offer team awards to categories where two or more teams exist with a minimum of four participants on each team. If only one team exists within a category, we will not offer team awards for that category. You will still qualify for individual awards if your team does not qualify for team awards in any category.

Team awards can include:

  • Fastest Ultimate Volunteer Team Full-Gear Team
  • Fastest Ultimate Paid Team Full Gear Team
  • Fastest Ultimate Helmets & Packs Only Team
  • Fastest Ultimate Junior / Explorer Team
  • Fastest Full-Gear Volunteer Team
  • Fastest Full-Gear Paid Team
  • Fastest Helmets & Packs Only Team
  • Fastest Full-Gear & On-Air Team
  • Fastest Junior / Explorer Team
  • Fastest First Responder Team(s)
    • Fastest Police Team
    • Fastest EMS Team
    • Fastest Military Team
  • Largest Volunteer Team
  • Largest Paid Team
  • Largest Junior / Explorer Team
  • Largest First Responder Team (including additional categories for police, military, EMS)
  • Top 5 Firefighter and First Responder Fundraising Teams

Individual Awards

Individual awards will rank the fastest individual Climb times. If you do not qualify for team awards, you will still qualify for individual awards as all our participants qualify for individual awards.

Individual Awards can include:

  • Top 3 Overall Fastest Ultimate Firefighter (Full-Gear) awards for Male and Female
  • Top 3 Overall Fastest Ultimate Helmets & Packs awards for Male and Female
  • Top 3 Overall Fastest Ultimate Junior / Firefighter awards for Male and Female
  • Top 3 Overall Fastest Firefighter in Full-Gear awards for Male and Female
  • Top 3 Overall Fastest Helmets & Packs awards for Male and Female
  • Top Overall Fastest Firefighter in Full-Gear & On-Air awards for Male and Female
  • Top Overall Fastest First Responders awards for Male and Female
    • Can include sub-categories for military, police, EMS
  • Top Overall Fastest Junior or Explorer Firefighter awards for Male and Female
  • Top 10 Firefighter Category Fundraising Individuals
