Training Hike Schedule

An important part of the Climb for Clean Air program, is our training program, led by our Alumni Volunteers who are dedicated to getting you mentally and physically ready to summit a mountain with the American Lung Association. Even if you are an advanced hiker or climber, training together through these hikes is strongly encouraged to learn…

  • Rope team/group pacing
  • Climbing in the dark, with a headlamp
  • Technical climbing skills
    • Rest step
    • Pressure breathing
    • Crampon use/movement
    • Snow/ice footwork
    • Rope travel
  • Comradery building You’ll be spending up to four straight days together summiting a mountain this summer! It’s helpful to meet your rope team before you start summiting.
  • Meet other climbers doing other mountains that you won’t get much time outside of training.
  • Get one-on-one Q & A time for training and fundraising advice with the many alumni volunteers present at these hikes.

Our team and all Alumni Volunteer always stress that these training hikes are only one component of your training needed to prepare you to summit this summer. Make sure you join as many of these training hikes as you can! If you are out-of-state or cannot make these dates, please click here to contact our team to provide you alternative resources and support.
