What is the Asthma Hike for Kids?

The Asthma Hike for Kids is designed to help kids and their families recognize their asthma triggers, learn to properly take their medications, and pretreat so they can enjoy a beautiful day outside in Colorado.

This guided hike includes a pre-hike program and education stations along the trail, all led and supported by asthma education and medical professionals. Kids will learn how to prepare for exercise, so they have a positive experience, as well as how to recognize their medical needs and advocate for themselves. Families will learn how to prepare so they can enjoy time with the whole family in the great outdoors.

How do I sign up?

You can register online by choosing the Register option in the navigation at the top of this page.

Who Can Attend?

Kids with asthma and their families (1 adult per child is required).

Can siblings or other family members attend?

Yes! The Asthma Hike is designed to educate the whole family on how to be active with asthma.

What should we bring?

  • Your Child’s Asthma medication
  • Sunscreen/Sunhat
  • A backpack or fanny pack to carry everything in
  • Water bottles
  • A good pair of walking shoes (no open toes)

How Do I get to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge?

  • By Car: 6550 Gateway Rd, Commerce City, CO 80022
    Mary Lake Trailhead. Carpooling is encouraged.
  • By Bus: The stop at 60th/Dahlia
    A free shuttlebus will be available to give you a ride to the trailhead.
