FAQ

General

As your Trusted Champion of Lung Health, we have also committed to fulfilling our promise of responsible recreation. Therefore, the American Lung Association and the Fight For Air Climb events will be moving outside.

With safety being our number one priority, we are continuing to monitor current CDC guidelines as well as state/local guidelines.

The safest environment for gathering is outside in the fresh air, and to create that safe environment, we will be:

  • Spatial distancing and wearing masks
  • Controlling flow and number of people on-site
  • Following strict site sanitation protocols throughout the day

As you can imagine, the stairs at Nissan Stadium are much different than the stairwells of the 505 building where Climb Nashville is typically held. Below are the route options for this year’s Fight For Air Climb with stair count totals.

  • Stadium Climbers: This route will include weaving up and down the Lower Bowl at Nissan Stadium for a total of 2,817 stairs and equates to about 1.3 miles.
  • Firefighters and First Responders: This route will include weaving up and down the Upper Bowl and includes an exclusive Upper Bowl Section for a total of 3,322 stairs and equates to about 1.5 miles.
  • Ultimate Climbers (Titan Challenge): TThis route is for those looking for an even tougher challenge the TITAN Challenge! This route will include weaving up and down the Lower Bowl and continuing up to weave up and down the Upper Bowl at Nissan Stadium for a total of 6,139 stairs and equates to about 3 miles.
  • Climb Your Way: We recommend shooting for the 2,817 stairs the Stadium Climbers will be doing which equates to about 1.3 miles.

You may only bring inhalers, cell phones, and portable music players on the stairs with you. You will be allowed to bring in an EMPTY reusable water bottle or a factory sealed water bottle to carry with you while you climb. Water filling stations will be accessible throughout Nissan Stadium. Due to stadium regulations, participants are not allowed to carry children while they climb.

Please leave valuable items at home as we are not responsible for lost or stolen items. There will not be a coat or gear check area.

If for some reason you cannot complete the climb, someone at the nearest water station can assist you.

In the interest of competition and to make this event as fair as possible, the following guidelines have been established for Firefighter participants:

PPE: Must be structural firefighting gear adhering to NFPA 1971. Both coat and pants MUST have the liner in place. Failure to have a liner will result in disqualifying your time from the trophy. Pants must also be worn. ¾ coats will be permissible.

BOOTS: All boots must be structural firefighting boots. Rubber, leather & lace up boots will be permitted, provided they are fire rated.

GLOVES: Gloves are optional.

HELMET & HOOD: Helmets are mandatory; hoods are optional.

AIR TANK: An air tank must be worn the entire climb. It is recommended that they be full, though this will not be monitored. Keep in mind the spirit of the event is that no firefighter would make the climb with an empty bottle there was a fire at the top. Due to the various sizes, capacities, makes and department standards, we cannot have an official size or weight set for the air tank. Therefore, the only requirement is that one be worn for the entire climb.

MASK: Masks are optional. Time will be counted whether you are on air or not.

UNDERLAYERS: Optional, but it is recommended that some sort of clothing be worn.

EMS: Any EMS team is more than welcome in the firefighting competition provided they meet the above requirements.

Fundraising

The minimum fundraising requirement is $100 per person for Stadium Climbers and $250 for Ultimate Climbers (Titan Challenge). Climbers have until event day to raise the money and if, for some reason they haven’t met the minimum they will be asked to pay it before participating.

The registration fee does not count toward the fundraising minimum. But don’t worry, we are here to help, and we have plenty of fundraising ideas and tips to get you started!

The American Lung Association is dedicated, now more than ever, to providing you with the Climb experience you know and love. As your Trusted Champion of Lung Health, we are also committed to fulfilling our promise of responsible recreation. Therefore, the American Lung Association will continue to closely monitor public local health conditions and CDC guidelines. In order to appropriately protect our participants' well-being and the community at large, the American Lung Association reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or alter the 2021 Fight For Air Climb.

Should the Fight For Air Climb be altered to be a virtual event, your registration will automatically transfer to virtual participation in our Climb Your Way program. Your registration fee, and any funds raised, will transfer with your registration. Your registration can be credited toward your fundraising. Participants who raise $100 or more will earn a Fight For Air Climb shirt. Raise $175 or more to qualify for additional incentive items.

If the Fight For Air Climb is canceled or postponed, funds raised will support the American Lung Association’s mission. You may request to transfer your registration fee to the next event date, but please note that registration fees are non-refundable.
