Frequently Asked Questions

Climb For Clean Air is a mountaineering training and fundraising program benefiting the American Lung Association. Participants train to successfully summit a mountain of their choice (Mt. Rainier, Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, or other). During this time, they raise awareness for the American Lung Association's programs and activities through their individual fundraising campaigns. The American Lung Association provides training, lodging, guides and technical equipment for the climb itself as well as the platform for a life changing experience!

Click the Register button at the top of this page.Go to the Homepage. Follow the steps through the registration process from here. Once the transaction is complete, you will receive a confirmation email receipt.

This website offers the capability for individuals to not only register for the event, but also collect donations from their friends and family through an efficient mechanism. Each climber can track the progress of donations collected through viewing secured online reports.

When you register for Climb for Clean Air, you will receive an individual web page created just for you! Here, friends and family can sponsor your climb through an on-line donation (there are also mail-in donation forms on the site if they would rather mail-in their donation), and much more. The username and password you create when registering will allow you to login. This center will have an area that lists all of your donors, any special fundraising levels you have to reach, and an area that has email templates (both donation asks and thank you letters). You can then send these out to people you know, and from the email lists you can upload into the center.

Fundraising is located on different webpages for different climbing events.

Once on the site, you can find your participant center (green button) on the top right corner of the page.

Your web page will:

  • Show your current fundraising total.
  • Have an email function that will allow you to invite people to donate towards your fundraising efforts.
  • Provide a report area that will allow you to keep track of the donations you receive.
When you send an email to your family and friends asking for a donation, all they have to do is click on the link at the bottom of the page (under "Login to visit my personal web...") to end up at your center. They just need to fill in the amount they are giving, and any other required information needed to process their gift. Once processed, they will receive an emailed receipt. There is also a downloadable mail-in donation form to use if they would rather mail their donation.

You can personalize your page by clicking on the “MY PERSONAL PAGE” option in the top menu of your Participant Center. Here, you can add a personal photo, video, blog to keep your donors updated on your progress, and you can change/add more text.

  • To change the photo, click on the "Photo/Video" button on the right side of the page. Then click “Choose File” button and select from your photos. Then, click “Save/Upload.” Make sure your photo is in .jpeg format with a maximum size of 2440px by 2440 px.
  • To add a video instead of a photo, choose the Video option and past the link to your video in the field that appears.
  • To add a blog, click the "Components" button on the right side of the page and check the box next to, “Enable Personal Blog.” To start posting and editing, ensure you are still logged you’re your Participant Center.
  • To change the text, just type in the Title or Body text boxes already on the page.

Yes, you can create a personal address for your web page. Log into your Participant Center and click, “MY PERSONAL PAGE” from the top menu. On the top of this page look for "Personal Page URL: (URL Settings)" and click on the link "(URL Settings)". You can update the field that appears. This address link is automatically included in any emails that are sent through the MY EMAIL communications, so we advise you not to change it once you have sent out the link! You may also copy and paste this link into any other form of messaging.

Remember that your username and password are case sensitive. To have either one emailed to you, go to the home page and on the top right of the page, click on the "Login" link. You will now be able to see the link, Forgot Username or Password. Just click on that link and follow the instructions.

Yes. We use industry-standard SSL encryption techniques to make sure that your credit card information, passwords, and personal information are secure. We have also installed an encryption engine on our database server so that your data is securely stored.

You must type in the first name or last name of the Climber exactly how it is spelled. It is not case sensitive. If you have a problem locating a Climber that you are sure has registered, please contact Guillermo Madera by email at climbmtp@lung.org for help.

The average climber raises well over the minimum - even those who have never done fundraising before! The Lung Association has sample letters and fundraising ideas from successful climbers' fundraising campaigns; you can modify these to fit your needs. Check out our Fundraising Tips page for more ideas! The professional fundraising staff at the Lung Association is available to answer questions and to help you plan your campaign. Yes, on the home page of the website, friends and family may locate a Climber by clicking on the "Donate" button on the top of the website home page, then typing in the name of the Climber to bring up the climbers name. Once they click on the climbers name, they will be directed to the Climber's personalized donation page. These pages also have a downloadable mail-in donation form for those who would rather mail their donations in.

You will need to send your donations to us at the Lung Association, along with the climber Donation Collection form (make sure to put your name at the top so we know whose account to credit).

  • Checks should be made out to the American Lung Association or ALA.
  • If someone makes a check out to your name, turn it over and write "Pay to the Order of ALA," and sign it in the endorsement block on the back. You can then send it in with the other donations along with a Donation Collection Form. (Our bank won't let us deposit checks made out to you.)
  • Credit card donations can be made by completing the credit card form and mailing it to us, or through www.climbforcleanair.org. Online, they’ll go to your personal page for a secure online donation.
  • Send your company matching gift forms in with your donations. If the company has an online process for matching gifts, please send in a copy (paper or electronic) of the email verifying the donation and match to climbmtp@lung.org so we give you credit for the matching gift!
  • Remember to send all donations in with an accompanying Climber Donation Collection Form. This way you get credit for each donation! Also, always keep a record of your donors and the amount they give. This way, we have clear records to look through for an error if there are any discrepancies.

Yes! Some companies sponsor the entire registration fee, others will match your fundraising efforts, and others will partially sponsor. Try to ask for fundraising early in their business year as most companies plan their budget between October and December for the following calendar year. No, but the registration fee will count towards your fundraising goal!

To find out who donated to you, login to your Participant Center and click on the "MY PROGRESS" option in the top menu. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to view a list of your donors and their information. You can also view your donors on your personal web page. This page shows your current fundraising account balance and who has donated to you. Sometimes it takes us up to a week to process the checks you send. If your account balance doesn't look right to you, be sure to call us and ask about it. Also, when an online donation is made in your name, you will receive an email from us telling you the name of the donor.

Technical equipment rentals will be provided. Timberline Mountain Guides Mazamas nd Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. supply us with a detailed list of equipment. This information will be available for all climbers. There will also be special discounts for some of the equipment that climbers need to purchase on their own.

Our professional guides will provide details on what you should bring on the climb. Generally recommended to bring quick snacks, coffee, granola, and easy things to eat. More details to come.

Travel is not provided to and from the climb. Our volunteers and climbers will work together to provide ride-share options for large climbs.

All international climb travel will be the responsibility of the climber.
