Signing up for a Walk near you is simple! Click the following links to register online as an individual, team captain, team member or volunteer.
While there is no registration fee, as a signature fundraising event for the American Lung Association, we encourage all participants to fundraise a minimum of $100 per person. Your funds will support the mission of the American Lung Association and offset the costs of Zoo admission and parking. We encourage all participants to fundraise. We offer a number of fundraising tools to help you be a successful fundraiser. Every dollar helps move us closer to a world free of lung cancer and lung disease.
The annual team week celebration, coined Whoosh Week, is right around the corner! Taking place August 21-27, Whoosh Week builds team engagement and fundraising efforts for LUNG FORCE Walk Detroit with focused, competitive, and fun challenges throughout the week. The whoosh of breath signifies LUNG FORCE’s identity. Our signature color turquoise and “whoosh” icon symbolizes air, breathing and healthy lungs—and the force it will take to improve lung health. Stay tuned for important updates as we come together as one FORCE to raise funds and awareness.

Everyone is welcome to join a LUNG FORCE Walk, regardless of age. However, all children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All participants 2 years of age and older must be pre-registered and can help support our mission through fundraising the suggested minimum of $100 per person.

Yes! You can join our local LUNG FORCE Walk Detroit Facebook group to interact with other Walkers and learn more about the American Lung Association, our sponsors, and partners.
If you are participating in the LUNG FORCE Walk because of a personal connection to lung disease, you can identify yourself during the registration process. Additionally, you can also update your personal fundraising website to share your reason for walking.
Every participant who raises a minimum of $100 will receive a commemorative t-shirt. For more motivated fundraisers, there are additional rewards that you can work to achieve. Take a peek at the fundraising incentives.
We understand that not everyone is able to attend the LUNG FORCE Walk in person for various reasons. Participating as a Virtual Walker in our Walk Your Way program will allow you to still support the mission of the American Lung Association and LUNG FORCE. The registration process is the same so head to www.lungforcedetroit.org and register as a Virtual Walker today!
A Mission Marker is a way to remember and honor a loved one who’s life has been affected by lung cancer or lung disease, by creating a sign that will be displayed on the walk path. Purchase a Mission Marker our e-commerce store for $35 or 3 for $90 to honor a loved one along the Walk route.

Yes! Organizing large events requires many hands to come together, and we encourage everyone to get involved with our Pre-Event Volunteer Opportunities! To learn more, please email Emma.Verlinden@Lung.org or call 248-784-2019. In the weeks leading up to the event, more information will become available on specific volunteer projects and shifts.
Definitely! We encourage volunteer teams to come together to support the Walk. To do so, select a Team Captain to register a new team that your teammates can join when they sign up. We do our best to ensure that teams can stick together in their roles/locations during the event.
A Lead Volunteer is a dedicated individual who has decided to play an important role in managing a station, area, or function of the event to ensure that a) other volunteers know their role, b) functions are running smoothly across the event, and c) everyone is having a great time!

Yes, you can! Feel free to reach out to the Development Team at EventsMI@Lung.org with your team’s name and we can design custom flyers that promote your team and display a QR code directing individuals toward the registration page.
Teams
Corporations, businesses, friends, families, and other organizations can form teams. To form a team, choose register as a team captain. Make sure you have a team name in mind. After you register as a Team Captain, tell your team members to select register as a team member and search for your team name to join.

Reset your login credentials. Once logged in, you can use the edit profile link at the top of the page to update your profile with a new username, password, email address or contact information.
Fundraising
As a participant, you have access to your own online participant center where you and your team members can send email messages, track donations, and monitor progress. Login to your participant center to get started.
Yes, you can download the LUNG FORCE app for Android and Apple devices. With this nifty mobile app, you can invite friends and family to join your team, fundraise on the go and track your steps in just a few taps. Learn more once you register and enter your participant center.
Donations can be made online by credit, debit card or PayPal. Donors will receive a receipt via email for their contribution, which is tax-deductible. Donations collected via check or cash may be mailed to the American Lung Association office at:

Many companies offer matching gift programs in which the company will match an employee's contribution to a charitable organization. You can ask your HR department about matching your contribution, or our company search tool below can provide you with basic information for many company policies.
Returning Walkers will love the limited-edition LUNG FORCE Walk alumni t-shirt, tank, or long sleeve shirt. Please visit our e-commerce store to check out our Alumni LUNG FORCE gear. Your order will be mailed directly to you and will arrive later this summer.
Walk Day Information
The walk route is roughly 1.5 miles with a shortcut available if needed.
Check-In opens at 7:30 AM and will remain open through 9:30 AM. Upon entering the Zoo, participants will begin the event at the LUNG FORCE Mission Village. Mission Village will be open from 7:30 - 10:00 AM in the Main Picnic Grove area. The Zoo will open for the public at 10 AM and participants are welcome to stay beyond the event to enjoy all the Zoo has to offer. Ceremony options and times are TBD.
The LUNG FORCE Walk will go on rain or shine! In the case of inclement weather, your local event staff will notify participants of alternate plans.
Parking is available at any of the Detroit Zoo parking locations free of charge. All participants must be checked in and through the gate before 10 AM to receive free parking and utilize their event ticket.
No. Though we love our furry friends, they can cause a respiratory emergency in some participants. So, we ask that you leave your pets at home so everyone can enjoy the Walk comfortably.
