Every year close to 342,000 Americans die of lung disease, responsible for one in seven deaths. Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer, resulting in more deaths than breast, colon, and prostate cancers combined. Startling facts like these bring us together as a community to take a stand against lung disease and a stand for lung health.
Of utmost concern to all of us today is the COVID-19 respiratory pandemic. The American Lung Association announced the COVID-19 Action Initiative this spring, committing $25 Million to battle the current COVID-19 pandemic and fund preparation and research to prevent future respiratory pandemics. The Radnor Run is a crucial fundraiser for the American Lung Association in the Philadelphia area. The money raised helps provide important programs, resources, and research in our region and here in our community. We are committed to fighting lung disease of all forms: lung cancer, asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, and more. We fund 35 Airways Clinical Research Centers across the United States focused on life-saving lung disease research. In addition, we fund research grants at leading institutions across the country. You can read more about our research here.
