Accreditation

Physicians: This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of Tufts University School of Medicine Office of Continuing Education (TUSM OCE) and the American Lung Association. TUSM OCE is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

TUSM OCE designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Respiratory Therapists: An application has been made to the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for continuing education contact hours for respiratory therapists.

Nurses: This activity has been submitted to the Connecticut Nurses’ Association for approval to award contact hours. The Connecticut Nurses’ Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Requirements for Successful Completion

To receive CME credit/attendance certificate, participants must sign-in using the provided eeds activity code, attend the entire activity and complete the online evaluation via eeds. Partial credit will be awarded for attending one or more presentations. Certificates will be available to print/save immediately upon completion of the evaluation and will also accessible in your eeds account.

Certificates for respiratory therapists and nurses will be emailed by the American Lung Association within 6 weeks of the activity.

Goal and Objectives

Educational Goal: The goal of this activity is to improve the care of patients with pulmonary and critical care related issues by providing health professionals with increased knowledge and skills around new advances, best practice, treatments and services.

Learner Objectives: As a result of this activity attendees will be able to:
Explain the imperatives and barriers for clinical trial data sharing.
Review genetic studies that demonstrate substantial overlap between findings in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. (IPF) patients and in research participants with interstitial lung abnormalities (ILA).
Describe recent information about the origin and pathogenesis of COVID-19.
Discuss respiratory health implications of energy use decisions at the hospital level.
Summarize the major health concerns associated with novel tobacco products.
Provide support, evaluate and treat patients with respiratory limitations and complications of neuromuscular diseases.
Describe the clinical decision-making process regarding a series of complex pulmonary/critical care case presentations along with their related diagnoses and treatment plans.
