FAQ

General

As your Trusted Champion of Lung Health, we have also committed to fulfilling our promise of responsible recreation. Therefore, the American Lung Association and the Fight For Air Climb events will be moving outside.

With safety being our number one priority, we are continuing to monitor current CDC guidelines as well as state/local guidelines. Social distancing at an in-person event will be enforced. We are also excited to offer Climb21, a new and competitive way to participate in the Fight For Air Climb and a way for you to Climb Your Way! More information about Climb21 located on our Climb Your Way page.

Climb21 is a chance to “travel” the world on your terms with the American Lung Association. For the 21 days leading up to our in-person outdoor Climb on June 12, join us as we virtually “climb” (May 23 through June 12), the steps of famous landmarks across the globe and in your own backyard.

Using our updated Fight For Air Climb app’s Activity Tracker (available for Apple and Android devices), you can track your steps and raise money to earn great prizes while participating in Climb21, our new and exciting way to “travel” and train around the world. Complete local landmarks, take a road trip across the country or explore the world with beautiful and historic locations. The more funds you raise and steps you take for our mission, the more well-travelled you’ll be. From a Localista to a high-skies Jet-Setter to a worldly Globetrotter, you can climb the same number of steps as iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world (a towering 2,909 steps).

*You must be a registered climber to use the Climb mobile app.

Every participant will automatically have access to our Climb21 challenge tools as a training opportunity. Once you register, you will receive information about how to complete your Climb21 challenge (May 23 June 12), during the 21 days leading up to our in-person Climb. You will receive a list of 21 landmarks you can “climb” from around the world. From the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, to our local Three Logan Square in Philadelphia, you will be able to pick and choose what landmarks you complete during the 21 days and reach our different Climb21 Adventure Clubs. The more steps you complete, the more “well-traveled” you will be!

Our updated Fight For Air Climb app* (for Apple and Android) includes a new Activity Tracker feature that allows you to track your steps and see how you compare to your teammates and their own activity! The Fight For Air Climb app also allows you to take donations, track your fundraising progress, send emails and texts to donors, and more.

As you reach new milestones for steps tracked, you’ll receive special recognition and even better incentive prizes!

*You must be a registered climber to use the Climb mobile app.

Every participant will automatically have access to our Climb21 challenge tools as a training opportunity. Climb21 is an exciting way to enhance your event experience and train for the in-person Climb while getting to “travel” and earn better incentive prizes and special recognition! Climb21 is not a requirement to participate in the in-person Climb but is strongly encouraged.

Participants will be required to:

  • Stay six feet apart
  • Wear a mask at all times (even while climbing)
  • Bandanas, face gators and face shields may not be substituted for masks
  • Pass a digital health questionnaire 24 hours before the climb and provide proof at check-in
  • Complete a temperature check to gain entry (any participant with an above average temperature will not be allowed to participate or enter the venue)

The in-person event will be based on local guidelines such as capacity limits for in-person events and gatherings. We will be staggering participant start times further apart than in past years to ensure plenty of space for social distancing.

Once you have received your start time via a text message, participants will be instructed to line up at the designated entrance to the stadium to begin their climb (while keeping six feet apart with the help of ground markers and staff guidance). After a participant completes their climb, they will be asked to grab any belongings and leave the venue from a different designated exit to allow other participants to enter as we monitor the venue’s capacity and local restrictions. There will not be an in-person After Party or Awards Ceremony (details of the virtual Awards Ceremony coming soon).

We will not be allowing any spectators to enter the venue. Only registered participants that have qualified to Climb will be allowed inside the stadium.

We have a capacity limitation plan in place to ensure that our top fundraisers are prioritized in participating in person should we have to limit the number of climbers that can take part in the in-person event. The best way to secure your spot to participate in person is to continue your fundraising efforts right up to our in-person event date using our Fundraising Tips and by contacting your local event manager for help.

Our promotional photography comes from prior year (pre-COVID) events.
