FAQ

General

As your Trusted Champion of Lung Health, we have also committed to fulfilling our promise of responsible recreation. Therefore, the American Lung Association and the Fight For Air Climb events will be moving outside.

With safety being our number one priority, we are continuing to monitor current CDC guidelines as well as state/local guidelines.

The safest environment for gathering is outside in the fresh air, and to create that safe environment, we will be:

  • Spatial distancing and wearing masks
  • Controlling flow and number of people on-site
  • Following strict site sanitation protocols throughout the day
  • Our promotional photography comes from prior year (pre-COVID) events.

Ultimate Climbers, thank you for your participation in the Fight For Air Climb Kansas City. Your commitment and athleticism adds to the excitement and competitive spirit of this event. This year, however, several limitations prohibit us from hosting an Ultimate Climb experience. Instead, we are giving you a new challenge of climbing both up and down stadium stairs! We hope you understand and “ultimately” decide to join us again this year. We look forward to a fun, unique experience under open skies at Children’s Mercy Park. Let’s climb together safely while raising funds for all those living with lung disease.

The Fight For Air Climb Kansas City will not be a professionally timed event in 2021. However, we will have timing clocks at the start and finish line to allow for self-timing with the use of personal fitness devices or apps like the Fight For Air Climb App. We encourage you to share your finish time with the Climb community post-event by self-reporting your results within 48 hours of event day here. Please note, we have eliminated formal award categories for fastest climb times this year.

The Fight For Air Climb route is 1,398 steps.

Please visit our Climb Your Way page.

As your Trusted Champion of Lung Health, we have also committed to fulfilling our promise of responsible recreation. Therefore, the American Lung Association will continue to monitor the status of the COVID-19 pandemic and give thoughtful consideration to our event’s safety. In order to appropriately protect our participants' well-being and the community at large, the American Lung Association reserves the right to cancel, postpone, or alter the 2021 Fight For Air Climb. We are happy to help transfer you to our virtual Climb Your Way program. This program allows you to climb your way at the time and location of your choosing while still supporting the Fight for Air Climb. Your registration fee will be converted to a tax-deductible donation. Once completed, you will not be eligible to reverse the process and climb in-person at Children’s Mercy Park. Please contact Leslie at leslie.hdzbrown@lung.org to receive help transferring your registration.

If you are looking to transfer your registration from virtual Climb Your Way to In-Person at Children’s Mercy Park, please contact the Climb Event Staff. If spots are available, you will be required to pay the $35 registration fee and hit the fundraising minimum of $100 by May 31, 2021 to be eligible to participate in-person.

If spots are not available, you will be added to a wait list and notified by staff if any spots become available. Please contact Leslie at leslie.hdzbrown@lung.org to receive help changing your registration.

Thanks to the generous support of people like you, the American Lung Association saves lives by fighting for healthy lungs and clean air. Today, our fight is more important than ever, and 88 cents of every dollar raised by our organization goes directly to education, research and advocacy.

If you are wondering how your support impacts our community, look no further! Here are two great examples:

    • The Lung Association awarded 12 COVID-19 & Respiratory Virus Research grants in 2020. Dr. Brandon Dekosky at the University of Kansas Center for Research is a recipient of this 2-year award.
    • The Airways Clinical Research Centers, funded by the Lung Association, is led by some of the best investigators nationwide. Their research focuses on asthma and COPD research. Kansas City is home to an ACRC located at the University of Kansas Medical Center, led by Dr. Mario Castro.

These are just two examples of the many ways the American Lung Association is impacting our local community.
