Every Step Counts

Outdoors, onward, upward and around the world.

COVID-19. Lung Cancer. Lung disease. Clean Air. That’s why we Climb.

We're taking the Climb outside and around Vermont in 2021. We’re moving onward and upward, safely and responsibly, so that we can make an impact now to ensure a healthier future for all.

Join us outside and around Vermont for a reimagined Climb this summer from July 1 — September 1. All are welcome to share in this adventure, whether you’re new to our mission or a veteran Climber.

Just like our indoor event, how you climb outdoors is up to you. You can race to the end or take it at your own pace throughout the summer as well as pick and choose the climbs you want to complete from our list of 21 Vermont trail locations. You will be able to Climb Your Way with our new Climb Vermont challenge while making a difference in the lives of those living with lung disease.

How to Complete our ‘Climb Vermont’ Challenge

Starting on July 1 and ending on September 1, participants can use our updated Fight For Air Climb app’s Activity Tracker* (available for Apple and Android devices), to track your steps as you complete the locations on our Climb Vermont Adventure Map and raise money to earn great prizes while participating in our Climb Vermont challenge. The more funds you raise and steps you take for our mission, the more you will earn. You can “virtually” climb the steps in your own neighborhood or visit the trails in person to complete your challenge.

When you participate in our new Climb Vermont challenge, you can join an Adventure Club by raising $250 or more and tracking 15 miles or more from the list of Climb Vermont trails to make a difference in the lives of people impacted by lung disease. Members in the Adventure Clubs listed below receive even better incentives and special recognition for their Vermont travels with the American Lung Association.

Why We Need You in the Fight

In March, the American Lung Association launched a $25 million initiative to end COVID-19 and defend against future respiratory virus pandemics. At the same time, we're continuing our advocacy work to support clean air and redoubling our long-term commitments to lifesaving research.

Over the last 12 years, the Climbers have raised more than $65 million to support the mission of the American Lung Association.

Join us. Because Every Step Counts and every step makes a difference.
