CANCELED: San Francisco Fight For Air Climb 2020
SAN FRANCISCO (March 6, 2020) – The American Lung Association in California's Fight For Air Climb, scheduled for Saturday, March 7, has been cancelled due to an abundance of caution for participants, staff and partners of this major fundraising event.
While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) still considers the immediate health risk to the American general public to be low, the San Francisco Department of Health recently advised that special reconsideration should be given to large events involving vulnerable populations, such as those with lung diseases.
“The health and well-being of Lung Association event participants, volunteers, staff and partners remains our top priority. We are especially sensitive to the health of those with lung disease who may have planned to attend our Climb." said Carrie Nash, Executive Director of the American Lung Association - San Francisco.
“This decision was made after much deliberation with volunteer and senior leadership as well as partners, and recognizes personal concerns expressed by some Bay Area residents. The decision also comes as both the State of California and San Francisco County have declared states of emergency to prepare for any future developments with the Coronavirus.
"As has been the case, the American Lung Association strongly urges the public to follow the latest updates from and guidance given by the CDC on all COVID-19 related issues,” Nash concluded.
