Updates Due to COVID-19

Our Trek Across Maine staff put the health and well-being of our community first and foremost. We have been closely monitoring the spread of the coronavirus and the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine throughout the past year. Based on the guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and local government officials, and communication with host facilities, we have decided to host the Trek Across Maine as a virtual event in 2021.

The physical ride will not take place June 18 - 20. Instead, we are encouraging participants to track their own progress and complete their mileage goals for Trek Across Maine by cycling 60, 120, 180 miles at their own pace before June 30, 2021.

Cycle Your Way - Trek Across Maine

The virtual Trek Across Maine encourages our Trekkers to stay active and enjoy time on their bike (practicing safe social distancing) while supporting the work of the American Lung Association. Please review the details below regarding how you can Cycle Your Way this year as part of the Trek Across Maine.

  • Register as a participant: If you are currently registered for the 2021 Trek, you will automatically be converted to a virtual participant and do not need to register again. If you’d like to adjust your registration to be marked as inactive, please contact TrekAcrossMaine@Lung.org.
  • Fundraising & Incentive Info: Trekkers will earn their commemorative Trek t-shirt, accomplishment medal and sticker by reaching the $250 fundraising minimum by June 30th! Additional incentives are also available (including cycling jerseys, shorts, gift cards and more) when you go above and beyond the minimum.
  • Training: Get those miles in! Please remember to practice social distancing while spending time on your bike and working towards achieving your mileage goal of 60, 120 or 180 miles. Daily exercise is key to both lung health and mental health.

Why We Ride

The Trek Across Maine will celebrate its 37th anniversary in 2021 with a virtual event experience. As the largest fundraising event of its kind in the nation for the American Lung Association, the Trek has raised more than $29.5 million in the past 36 years. This year funds raised by the Trek Across Maine continue to support our COVID-19 Action Initiative with three main focus areas:

  • To provide free lung health education and masks to those in need.
  • To protect public health by advocating for COVID and flu vaccines in underserved communities of color.
  • To prevent future outbreaks by investing in respiratory virus research.

There are 36 million Americans suffering from lung diseases, like COPD, asthma and lung cancer — the #1 cancer killer in the United States. As cyclists, you know how important it is to have healthy lungs and clean air to breathe. By joining us and hundreds of others for the Trek Across Maine, you’ll also be supporting:

  • Life-saving research
  • Education for patients and families
  • Advocacy for clean air and protection from harmful air pollution

Thank you for supporting healthy lungs and clean air, because when you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.
