Working to better myself and bettering the way I work
When I was in my early twenties, I lost my mother to lung cancer. A life long smoker who had just overcome a myriad of other personal demons, but this was the one that got her.
I smoked, myself, until I was 25. No story about quitting and being fit, all of a sudden. I stayed sedentary and lazy, save for the live shows I played with my old metal band and the requisite rehearsals. In fact, until the mass venue smoking bans, I was sitll surrounded by smoke. Damn near every night.
I've decided to run now for the first time because I want to be a success at 44. A physical avatar for latter-life health (yeah, "latter-life".... 44 is literally middle aged OMG ROFL) and show off that it isn't too late to get where you need to be. So, yes, I'm definitely working to better myself. Being more active, though, betters the way I work on me and the way I get the message across.
