I'm doing the Climb for Clean Air to challenge myself and to support people with lung disease who have to fight for every breath.
I'm climbing for a healthier future, for vital research and for clean air. I climb as an environmental science student, who is putting in the work for a healthier and safer future. I climb as a veteran for those impacted by burn pits, among many other causes of lung related issues in service members. I climb as a grandson, who has seen first hand how smoking can take loved ones away too soon. I climb as someone who has suffered from COVID-19 twice.
Through groundbreaking research, advocacy and critical education, the money we raise will provide lifesaving treatments and dramatically improve the quality of life for more than 36 million Americans diagnosed with lung disease.
Join the Climb for Clean Air and be part of making a difference in the lives of lung disease patients and their caregivers. Every donation takes us one step closer to a world free of lung disease. The need is urgent, so please join me today and help us save more lives.
Every day, every minute and every second counts – join me or donate today.
Did you know the Clean Air Act is 53 years old? A $53 donation is a great way to commorate the act that has achieved dramatic reductions in air pollution, helping us all breath a bit easier. Trying to quit smoking? instead of buying cigarettes, donate the price. If you have suffered from COVID-19 consider donating $19. Can't donate? Please share why I'm climbing and what makes this fundraiser so important!

Closing in on the end of $10/mile!
Today's miles (which were supposed to be done yesterday) were donated by Stephen and Greg. 13 miles were done and I'm beat, but I have 12 more for tomorrow thanks to an anonymous donor! If you haven't donated yet send me some miles! So far I've been able to keep up (with some shifting of scheduling due to storms) and with only one day left to donate mileage I think I can stay on track. If you can't donate this month don't worry! The fundraiser will continue on for roughly two more months, giving plenty of time to save some money to donate towards a great cause.

Day 2, 3, and 4 of $`10/mile!
Sorry for the delayed updates on the $10/mile challenge! Day 2 mileage was thanks to Jeff T and yesterdays mileage was thanks to one donor who wished to remain anonymous and Dan S. Yesterday I traded the running shoes in for skins and a splitboard and was able to train in the White Mountains thanks to the recent snow! I was able to log 3,700 vertical feet over the course of the day and got more comfortable skinning on a splitboard (which doesn't exactly help for climbing Rainier, but an added bonus). Today's mileage is thanks to Westley M! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!

Day 1 of $10/mile
Today I ran 2 miles just before the snow started falling. I'm hoping tomorrow I'll be able to run a few more miles! Thank you, Josh, for donating those miles!

Quickly Closing in on $2,000
At the beginning of this fundraiser I debated on dropping out and not doing it. Fundraising is hard, I don't have too much experience with it, and I'm having a challenging semester that takes priority over training and fundraising. But just over a month in and we're so close to hitting $2,000 already! Momentum is gaining and I know we'll raise the $6,500 I have set as my goal. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far, keep telling people about the cause. For the rest of the month I have decided to challenge myself and all the donors by running a mile for every $10 donated. That leaves a week and a day to donate! I'll be keeping everyone updated through page updates, emails, and on Instagram so go ahead and donate to watch me (hopefully) run an obscene amount of miles!

Over $1,000!!
We're officially over $1,000 from one month of fundraising! Momentum is building and I'm excited to see the fundraiser grow. Any veteran or service member who donates will get their name put on a banner that I will carry with me to the top, so if you're in the military, a veteran, or know someone who is please consider donating!

Officially over 10% raised!
Today we were able to get over 10% of the funds raised which is so exciting!! I'd love to hit 25% before the end of the month, so keep spreading the word and donating whenever possible. I have t shirts in the works for donors and I'll be carrying the names of every veteran who supported my fundraising efforts. Being a veteran is something close to me and being able to have veteran support means so much that I'll be bringing every veteran with me! I haven't decided what this will look like, but it will more than likely be a banner, t shirt, or something like that. If you want more updates on my training and fundraising efforts please follow me on instagram @tscalora96. Don't hesitate to reach out, I'm always looking for suggestions and want to talk to as many donors as I can to inform them on why I'm climbing Rainier and what the funds raised will go to. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!

Almost at $600 raised
Training has been going well and I got out to the White Mountains for some fun backcountry training. I have never raised the amount that my goal is set to, and it's a bit daunting, but if everyone who has donated already spreads the word to others then I think we can easily attain my goal of $6,500! I have been working on flyers, talking to businesses, and brainstorming other fundraising ideas. Please reach out if you would like to help me!

Week Four
Unfortunately I missed last weeks update, and took some much needed rest, due to a stint with COVID-19. This is motivating me even more to raise as much money as possible and get to the top of Mount Rainier! I have been talking with some businesses and should have at least one corporate sponsor by next week which is so exciting because it will bring me that much closer to raising the money needed to fund the research that the American Lung Association does as well as help those living with lung issues! Please spread the word to your friends and family about this cause, it's close to me and I'm so excited to be part of this event. If you haven't donated yet please do! I'm looking into possible gifts for donor tiers but haven't decided on anything just yet, so if you have any ideas please email me. Or you can email me if you would like more information on the event, why I'm doing it, or just want to say hi!

Week Two
This is the second week of fundraising and we're almost at 10% of our goal! I spend the past weekend with veterans from across the country ice climbing in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. It was a great experience and so fun to learn a new skill that is possibly my new favorite winter activity. I grew up snowboarding, and still get out as much as I can, but ice climbing got me more stoked than any day of snowboarding that I can remember. It certainly got me gave me even more motivation to climb Rainier with the American Lung Association, so make sure to tell everyone you know about the fundraiser! I'm currently looking for corporate sponsors for the event. If anyone knows of a business that would like to be a part of this opportunity with me please have them reach out!

First Day of Fundraising
I just set up my site to donate and am starting to prepare my training schedule which is exciting! I'll be trying to post here weekly to keep everyone updated on the training, fundraising, and probably some other random stuff.
I am a veteran of the 10th Mountain Division and found that I loved hiking and climbing while stationed at Fort Drum, NY. While in New York I began climbing the Adirondack 46, the highest mountains within the Adirondack Region, reaching the summit of half of them in a year and continuing to pursue the rest currently. Now that I'm out of the Army I attend the University of New Hampshire studying Environmental Science and Outdoor Leadership. New Hampshire has a hiking challenge similar to the Adirondack 46, which I'm currently working on with my girlfriend, called the New Hampshire 48. I'm looking forward to taking this challenge on and appreciate your donations!
