This year I am training to climb Mount Rainier to support the American Lung Association and my daughter Margaret who has a chronic lung disease called Cystic Fibrosis.
Some of you may recall that last August I attempted to climb Mount Rainier, but unfortunately due to 60 mph winds and unsafe conditions, we were forced to turn around at 12,000 feet. The experience was unforgettable and incredibly rewarding even though we did not summit, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. However, now I have a personal mission to reach the top of Mt. Rainier at 14,410 feet while doing it for a cause that I care deeply about!
36 million Americans suffer from lung disease. The American Lung Association's mission is to save lives and improve lung health and prevent lung disease. I'm sure we all know someone who has been affected by lung disease in some way, whether through Lung Cancer, Asthma, COPD, Cystic Fibrosis, or another lung disease. Additionally, we've all known someone affected COVID-19, and many have suffered respiratory issues because of it. The American Lung Association has an initiative to end COVID-19 and to invest money into fighting against future respiratory viruses. Funds raised will also be used to build community based education programs, fight for cleaner air standards and fund life-saving research.
The climb will take place June 19th-22nd, 2023. Luckily I convinced my cousin, Steve Simonich, to do it with me! Thanks Cuz!
