Help me reach the summit of Mt. Rainier!
I wanted to share some pretty exciting news. I have recently committed to participate in the American Lung Association's mountain climbing program - Climb For Clean Air. This July, I will be attempting to summit Mt Rainier, to support the American Lung Association’s ongoing efforts to fight lung disease.
You may think I’m nuts (and you may be right!), but supporting the programs of American Lung Association and summiting a glaciated mountain are two things I’ve always wanted to do. When I found out about this opportunity, I knew I had to jump in, as some of you know, I teach Pulmonary Rehabilitation in Physical Therapy. Therefore, I understand the negative impact of lung disease and recognize the need for improving lung health and preventing lung disease. Additionally, 2018 was a challenging year for me. I moved across the country from Indiana to Oregon, leaving some of my best friends and loved ones behind and faced the challenge of starting a new life/career in an unfamiliar city. During this difficult time, I found hiking helps me settle into this new area I plan to call home. More importantly, it allows me to connect with nature on a deeper level—a level that brings a sense of peace and happiness. So, I’m excited to take hiking to another level, embark on this mountaineering adventure and help make a difference and support the American Lung Association’s excellent programs and research.
Chances are you know someone who has faced the challenges of asthma, COPD, lung cancer or air pollution. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the American Lung Association provide community-based education programs, fight for cleaner air standards and fund life-saving research. With your help, we will fight against lung disease and for lung health. We will be making a positive difference for all of the parents who have a child with asthma, the people who struggle daily with COPD and the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children, and friends who get diagnosed with lung cancer.
Every donation I receive helps make a bigger impact. Please help support my efforts to save lives, donate now.
Together we can fight lung disease successfully!
Donuts for a good cause!
I'm selling Krispy Kreme Doughnuts to raise money for the American Lung Association. For each dozen donuts ($12) you buy, $7 dollars will be donated to the American Lung Association. My goal is to sell at least 100 dozens to get the discounted rate from Krispy Kreme!! Thank you in advance for your support and generosity. Please Facebook message me at Tzurei Chen to make your order. Thank you!!!

Thank you for letting me share some updates about my journey with Climb For Clean Air (CFCA), an American Lung Association's annual fundraising event! Joining CFCA, training to summit Mt. Rainier and fundraising for American Lung Association has been such a humbling experience. The weekend training hikes have become the highlight of my week. In the past month, we went up to Angels rest, Cape Horn, Indian Point and Hamilton Mountain, rain or shine (actually, most hikes so far are wet, cold, windy, and icy.) Sometimes I am daunted by the power of winter mountains and had doubts whether if I am ever going to be prepared to reach the top of Mt. Rainier. However, the stunningly beauty of the nature has always brought me back to her. I found out that I am in love with winter snowy hikes and it's even better when I get to hike with a group of wonderful new friends!
The magnificent scenery and new friends are great bonus of joining CFCA, however, the main reason why we climb with CFCA is to support the American Lung Association. On the last training hike to Hamilton Mountain, I met Martha. Martha is climbing to honor her sister, who just went through a lobectomy three months ago due to lung cancer. Meeting Martha and learning about her personal connection with lung disease further confirmed my determination to achieve my fundraising goal and help fight lung disease. I am working towards a goal of $4250 by May. Huge thank you for those who donated so far!! I am forever grateful for your support. Thank you also for those who provided emotional support and asked me about my climb. With your help, I am at 28% for my fundraising goal! That's $1222 raised within only one month!
Here is some examples of what your donation and the Climb For Clean Air program will help to support:
Research into promoting lung health and preventing lung diseases such as asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer and tuberculosis;
Being pro-active in the fight against outdoor air pollutants and environmental health; and
Striving to reduce tobacco use, especially among young people, that is responsible for over 400,000 deaths in the United States each year. Each day in Oregon, about 30 young people start smoking.
If you haven't had a chance to donate yet and you are able to, please do. Every little bit helps and it all adds up! Any contribution is greatly appreciated, whether if it's $5 or $50. All donations are tax deductible and funds go straight to ALA!
Thank you so much!
