Friends, family and supporters:
I have recently committed to participate in the American Lung Association's Climb for Clean Air program. This June, my goal will be to summit Mount Rainier, the tallest mountain in the Pacific Northwest standing at 14,410 ft, to support the American Lung Association’s ongoing efforts to fight lung disease.
I will be climbing in honor of my grandparents, who both passed away from lung disease, as well as in honor of close family friends and patients that I have cared for whose lives ended because of lung disease. Lung disease holds especially true to my heart as my first job as an ICU nurse was working for Duke Medical Center in the Medical ICU. The majority of the patients we cared for suffered from life threatening lung diseases, many of who came to Duke to find the cure, the treatment, or a new set of lungs to regain some quality of life. Many of the patients we cared for were not as fortunate as some, but it was seeing those that survived, that regained their lives, that smiled in the hardest moments, that cried with us, that kept us inspired and in love with our jobs. The passion for being a caregiver and for wanting to see people live a healthy life, laugh and love, will be with me forever.
In order to fulfill my commitment, I need the help of friends and family to sponsor me. Rather than making the climb solely for personal reasons, I have pledged to raise $4,000 by June 1st of this year to support the American Lung Association. All of the money donated helps support education and research in prevention of lung disease; this money will not fund my trip, training, or gear required to climb.
P.S. 100% of the donation is tax-deductible, and a donation receipt letter will be automatically sent to you.
Thank you for being a part of this life-changing experience.
