Making a difference, being aware, and wanting to be part of a solution – that is why I Climb for Clean Air (CFCA) with the American Lung Association (ALA).
Last year I reached Mt Hood’s summit at 11, 245 ft and raised $3,900. This year my sight’s are higher and on Rainier at 14, 410 ft and with a fundraising goal of $5,000. This matters – that’s my conviction – clear air, quality breath, and investing in our environment is not someone else’s obligation – we own this! With your contributions, we will collectively come together to put a spotlight on the importance of lung health and clean air.
Last year, the amount of people who donated who had a direct connection to lung disease or wanted to support clean air initiatives was beyond moving. Contributions fueled my fire to make an impact. Climbing the last 900 ft to reach Mt Hood’s summit took every cell in my body and oxygen in my lungs. I recall being anchored into her side; crampons and ice axe dug deep as my body could hear ice sliding beneath me. There was a moment I wasn’t sure. I wasn’t sure if I had it in me, or if I had the capacity to fight for those last 900 ft. I stopped, brought my mind and body together and reflected on what and why I was doing this! You are what came to mind! I remembered stories you shared of loved ones, my own desire to give my children clean air, and the honor I felt representing my donors! We climbed that mountain together. I needed you in order to make those last few feet. This year I’m pushing myself with a steeper elevation and fundraising goal. I need you sooner and more of you! I have a lot of training to do. I have a lot of fundraising to reach and more stories to learn.
Stay tuned for conditioning hike updates and pictures and some cool fundraising ideas I’m working on!
Thank you for supporting me and for being part of something that matters to us all!
Ramping up my Fundraiser Strategy
Now my sights are set on ramping up my fundraising. This is actually the hardest part ;). I'm collecting quality items I can sell at a few garage sales over the next two months. All of the profits will be applied to my fundraising. I'll also post the dates of the garage sales to also get the word out! So far I have a few neighbors who are excited about contributing. In fact, I'm thinking I'll need to hold a few garage sales given the amount of items I'm starting to get.
Stay tuned - more to share in the coming days about my training and my fundraising progress! Thank you everyone for your support!!!
