Let’s make sure everyone can benefit from healthy lungs.
A team of work friends and I have committed to climb Mt. Rainier this July in support of the American Lung Association's Climb for Clean Air program with the goal of raising $20,000. My personal goal is to raise an additional $4k by May 31st, 2019. The climb requires a significant time commitment to reach the required level of fitness and fundraising goals and I plan to bring you all along with occasional updates and training photos.
Looking back I can trace the impetus for this climb to three recent events that laid bare the relative fragility of life and jerked me out of a comfortable sense of complacency. The first was the Northern California Firestorm in October 2017 that upended the lives of thousands of families around my home town of Sonoma, California and the second and third were the untimely deaths of a dear friend/colleague/shipmate and a beloved cousin of Stacey's who each lost their battle with cancer during the same week last summer. YThey were fit, faithful, selfless husbands, fathers, sons and brothers whos seemingly did everything right in life and whose untimely deaths were a crushing blows to family and friends. In one weekend that hope never to repeat I attended one standing room only end of life celebration on Saturday and another on Sunday.
So with a desire to do something...and with cancer, clean air, the respiratory health of first responders and residents affected by fire, and a large measure of gratitude for the my own relative good health and fitness in mind I found the ALA and Climb for Clean Air.
Chances are you know someone who has faced the challenges of asthma, COPD, lung cancer or air pollution. By making a donation on my behalf, you will be helping the American Lung Association provide community based education programs, fight for cleaner air standards and fund life-saving research. With your help, we will fight against lung disease and for lung health. We will be making a positive difference for all of the parents who have a child with asthma, the people who struggle daily with COPD and the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children and friends who get diagnosed with lung cancer.
Every donation I receive helps make a bigger impact. Please help support my effortst o save lives, donate now.
