Let’s make sure everyone can benefit from healthy lungs.
Why am I climbing Mt. Rainier for the American Lung Association in 2019?
My time in the US Air Force taught me to be something greater than myself and take the path less traveled. Climbing Mt. Rainier takes special individuals who can come together as a group to accomplish this amazing goal. I know I could not do this climb alone without my fellow Tideworks Mountaineers and Climb For Clean Air comrades.
Throughout my life, I've hiked in New England, Germany, Spain, Alaska, Washington, and Colorado. The wilderness is my happy place and the bonus of it is to share those experiences with my friends.
My Sophomore year High School English teacher, Mr. McCooey, planted the seed of curiosity about hiking Mt. Rainier when he told my class about his experience summitting and showed us some of the equipment he used for hiking. I thought that one day it would be amazing to reach the summit myself.
I moved to WA in 2007 in the foothills of Mt. Rainier and have continued to toy with the thought of summitting one day. In July 2018, as part of the Tideworks Mountaineers, I spent the night at Camp Muir on Mt. Rainier at 10,188 ft and was so enamored by seeing the other hiking groups gearing up for summitting and talking to them about their journey getting to that point. This furthered my passion to want to summit Mt. Rainier. Now that I am a part of a group of like-minded hikers, this personal goal of summitting has become obtainable.
As Team Captain of the Tideworks Mountaineers, I have a great sense of pride in being a part of this group of friends/athletes/co-workers. It has given us all a sense of accountability to ensure we are physically, mentally, and emotionally ready for the incredibly demanding task of summitting Mt. Rainier.
My brother-in-law's Mom, Denise Washok, was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and is consequently battling depression. By raising money for the American Lung Association, we are raising funds and awareness to help combat lung cancer to help those like Denise.
Every donation I receive helps make a bigger impact. Please help support my efforts to save lives, donate now.
Together we can fight lung disease successfully!
