Thank you for visiting my page. My family and are walking for my mom on September 22nd in the LUNG FORCE Walk to make a difference in the lives of people impacted by lung cancer. This is something that is very near and dear to my heart, because this past November, my mom was diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 lung cancer. She was hospitalized for several weeks as her health quickly took a turn for the worst. She almost died several times before Christmas. My family was utterly devastated. Luckily, her brilliant doctor ran a test that checked for lung cancer genetic mutations, and we found out my mom has a super rare genetic mutation called ALK+. Ultimately, having this genetic mutation saved her life. Treatment for this type of lung cancer requires special chemo medication instead of the traditional type of chemotherapy which doesn't have an effect on it. This special chemo medicine fights only ALK+ cancer cells and the person is required to take it for the rest of their life or until it eventually stops working. My mom was our Christmas miracle and I am beyond grateful to have more time with her. Without the research that went into finding and creating this amazing chemo medincine for ALK+ lung cancer, my mom would not be with us today. She will never be cancer free, but maybe someday with the help of research, she and others with lung cancer could be. We would love for you to join our team, wALKing Positive, or donate if you feel so inclined.
I'm really looking forward to this event and I greatly appreciate your support. Your donation and participation will help support the American Lung Association's research innovation, which leads to early detection for all and better treatments that give everyone a fighting chance.
