Hey everyone! It's Rob here. For the better part of my adult life, my mother has been participating in fundraising efforts for cancer research as it has affected so many people in my family. I thank her for this as it was in November of 2022 that I was diagnosed with Stage 1b Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer.
When I was diagnosed with cancer, it was a bit shocking, but with the support of my close family members and medical team, I was able to fight and over come this. On January 17th of 2023, I had an apical segmentectomy of the upper lobe of my left lung. It was quite an amazing procedure that was done using the DaVinci Xi surgical robot which was able to precisely remove the cancerous region and allow me to leave the hospital within a few days. Although the surgery was quick, I still went through weeks and weeks of painful recovery as it takes a while for a persons body to become used to breathing after losing around 15% of one’s lung capacity. Thankfully, I’ve never had to undergo any chemo or radiation therapy as a result of this but as of this writing, I’ve been cancer free for over 18 months.
It’s because of fundraising efforts like this that allow the American Lung Association to provide grants for research, provide grants for the training of researchers, as well as to provide education, services, and advocacy related to asthma and other lung diseases, tobacco control, and indoor and outdoor air quality.
Please help up us by providing a small donation to Win The Fight against cancer. Every little bit helps and all donations are 100% tax deductible. You truly make a difference.
Sincerely,
Rob Gartley
