My story changed my life…I hope it can change your life, or the life of someone you love. I am honored to take part in the 2023 LUNG FORCE Hero campaign. My goal is to educate everyone on screening, early detection, and awareness. I want to change as many lives as possible by advocating for health screenings and proactive health management.
Annual Low-dose CT scans can help prevent deaths from lung cancer. Smokers and former smokers are at higher risk, but you could be at risk due to family history, exposure to 2nd hand smoke or environmental exposure. When Lung Cancer is detected early, it is more likely to be treated successfully.
My name is Tara Kennedy, and I was diagnosed with Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer in June of 2021. I am a non-smoker who went for an annual screening for a previously identified abdominal issue. My abdominal CT scan identified a nodule at the bottom of my lung. A follow up CT scan showed slight growth, but due to location, biopsy was not an option. I was initially advised to review in 3 months. My daughter, Baylee, is my LUNG FORCE Hero and a Nurse. She refused to accept the “wait and see” option. She referred me to Dr. Marc Block, a Thoracic Surgeon at Memorial Healthcare System. Dr. Block reviewed my history and scans and scheduled surgery immediately. Since my lobectomy, I have been free of Lung Cancer.
My early stage Lung Cancer diagnosis was the best thing that has ever happened to me. Because my daughter encouraged me to take charge of my health, I am cancer free and living my best life.
Be proactive, get screened. Don’t be afraid of the unknown, early detection could change your life too!
