On February 22nd, 2018, I was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer. I had a pain in my hip that turned out to be lung cancer. It was a complete shock to me as I have never smoked a day in my life! I was sent to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida and have received the very best care for the past three years. I have EGFR Lung Cancer and I am presently being treated with a targeted therapy pill called Tagrisso. The medicine is working! I want to do my part and raise funding for lung cancer research. "Team Deb" has raised over $18,000 the last three years and we had 67 walkers on our team the first year! "Team Deb" was the largest team for the Lung Force walk 2018 in Orlando. It is my goal to do it again this year! Please sign up to walk with me, Kent, Kaylie, Kyle, Kiera and Alejandro! Please join us on Saturday, May 8th for the Lung Force Walk in Orlando.
Thanks to lung cancer research, this "wonder drug" Tagrisso has been found and is positively impacting my prognosis and has allowed me to return to teaching. This is the reason we're raising money again through the Lung Force walk. This money will go towards critically needed research to find the next "wonder drug" that will help me and others that are facing this disease. I need your support!
