I've joined the LUNG FORCE Walk with my bff MARIANN to help make a difference for her and all those fighting this disease. I've had many close to me impacted by lung cancer - my mother Martha, her sisters Edith & Norma, my father-in-law Stan, and several friends. Lung cancer does not discriminate - smoker/non-smoker, it does not matter. Awareness, screening, and new treatments have had significant impact on my loved ones and can for yours as well. Your donations do help, I've witnessed and am amazed by the strides made each year with NEW TREATMENTS!! I have shared MARIANN's story with you before but want to share a couple of her updates to show how every little donation helps...
Mariann's story...
I was diagnosed in October of 2015 with Advanced Non Small Cell Lung Cancer. I have come a long way thru different chemos, radiation, chemo maintenance, etc. My scan in January showed some changes, though disappointing, it is also expected. Each chemo regime hopefully lasts a couple of years which is my case. This last one lasted 2 years and now we have another chemo option which will hopefully do the same. My scan after the newest treatment this month showed we are stable!!!
October will be 7 years since my diagnosis. This is what keeps me encouraged and this is why I fight as hard as I can to raise funds for continued research….so new options will continue to be available for patients like me.
I have accepted the fact that I will never be cancer free, but I remain positive and inspired to fight and to be an advocate.
I was so proud to have been part of Advocacy Day 2020, 2021 and now 2022 in Washington DC and to have had the opportunity to be the voice of all who are on this journey.
Come join my team on June 25, 2022 at Manhattanville College in Purchase for The Lung Force Walk Westchester.
IF YOU CANNOT JOIN US, please donate...$5, $10, $25 - you can donate and shout it from the rooftops, or donate anonymously. Whatever makes you most comfortable. Every little bit brings us a step closer to the next new treatment that could help a loved one...or our Mariann :)
