I walk for two very important people in my life; my Grandma and Grandpa Gates.
On April 7, 2018, we lost my Grandpa. My grandfather in his last days was diagnosed with lung cancer from many years of working in manufacturing and farming. My grandfather was one of a kind, loving, and always ready to fight hard.
On December 29, 1980, we lost my Grandma. Although I never got the chance to meet her, I am inspired by her daily. Throughout my dad's own cancer battle, his biggest priority was for our family to feel strong and to be able to rely on one another to get us through anything. It is because of my grandma's battle, and what she taught my dad, that my family is able to be so strong, loving, and always willing to give back.
Donate today to make a difference in the lives of those with lung disease and lung cancer so that no other families has to deal with losing a loved one prematurely.
Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer of men and women in the United States, killing 426 people EVERY DAY. However, there are some startling facts about how lung cancer is impacting women. Here are some facts about lung cancer in women.
- In the last 39 years, the rate of new lung cancer cases has fallen 32% among men while increasing 94% among women
- 1 in 17 American women will get lung cancer in her lifetime
- HALF of all women diagnosed with lung cancer will not even survive one year
- Lung cancer kills almost two times as many women as breast cancer and 3 times as many men as prostate cancer
Even more startling, despite the above statistics, only TWO percent of women have lung cancer on their radar as a health concern. Any one can get lung cancer, and this is a concern that we should all be alerting each other about in order to save lives.
Your donation and participation will help make a difference in the lives that desperately need it. To support my efforts, and to help save lives today, please donate now. Donate for Dawn Gates, donate for Mike Gates, and donate for the women in your life that may one day be told that she has lung cancer.
Together, we are a FORCE to be reckoned with.
