Every year, I lace up my shoes for the Lung Force Walk, driven by a profound and personal reason: to celebrate and remember my extraordinary mother, a Lung Force Hero, an Army Veteran, and a passionate Educator.
In 2021, my mother, even amidst her health struggles, unexpectedly expressed her desire to join this walk. The memory remains etched in my heart: her triumphant smile as she crossed her mile, aided by a walker and relying on oxygen, glowing with resilience. Tragically, that maiden walk we shared also became our last. But in that fleeting moment, I witnessed firsthand the boundless spirit my mother carried until her final day. A spirit she channeled to uplift everyone she met, even as her own lungs betrayed her.
She once poignantly remarked on my show, Groove with Portia, “If you can’t breathe, you will have a hard time surviving.” Today, I champion lung health and advocacy, not only to preserve my mother's indomitable legacy but also to inspire and support others as she did, even against the tide of deteriorating health.
Your support here is not just a donation; it's a tribute to an incredible woman's legacy and a hope for countless others struggling for breath. I humbly ask for your generosity, to breathe life into this cause and to keep the spirit of fighters like my mother alive.
