Welcome to my story about brothers, fathers, and loss. My father died in January 2016 after a 9 month battle with lung cancer. Dad texted me "have some things to talk about when you get home" when I was at a weekend church event. I called and he said "there were some spots on my lung in the MRI they did for my shoulder". I left immediately and I cried the whole drive home because I knew what was coming, for we had buried my Uncle Ken the year before due to multiple cancers including lung cancer. We had buried their older brother when i was in highschool after a battle with lung cancer. I could not believe this disease had another brother, my father, in its teeth. Dad fought hard on his own terms and we got one more birthday, one more Thanksgiving, and one more Christmas. He had one last amazing day January 24th with family all around him, sharing their love, and then he left us the next day. Sadly, i am one of 4 people at work who have lost their fathers to this killer. That is a lot of pain and too many daughters without their dads. I hope you will join me on May 19 to walk for awareness about lung cancer. Can't be here...you can walk with me virtually and help raise funds to fight lung cancer. Look for my team page W.A.R. and register to walk in VR or IRL, or make a donation.
Together, with your help, we will walk to raise awareness and funds to defeat lung cancer and raise our voices for lung health.
That’s why I have decided to participate in the LUNG FORCE Walk. When you join the American Lung Association and LUNG FORCE in the fight against lung cancer and for lung health, you join us in our mission to improve lives—and save lives.
Your donation and participation will help make a difference in the lives that desperately need it. To support my efforts, and to help save lives today, please donate now.
Together, we are a FORCE to be reckoned with!
