I have decided to participate in the Lung Force Run/Walk this year. Due to the pandemic this is a virtual run/walk for the month of June. I have selected to do a 5K even though I will try to up that to a 10K.
Please join my team Running with New Lungs and set your own personal goal.
As you all know my story, I received a double lung transplant back in August of 2012. I have done extremely well and am so blessed to have a second chance at life. I had a lung disease called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis which is a rare disease. Even though I was a runner I somehow contacted this disease.
Even though I was blessed by the grace of God, my story being quite the miracle, the doctors at IU Methodist where I was transplanted asked me why I thought I was still here 3 months after transplant. I just pointed to the skies and said by the grace of God. They responded and said that was all well and good but the real reason was that I had been a runner and if I had not been I would not had the strength and endurance to make it through my ordeal.
I had great odds against me and I was prepared and knew that I was going to die. I had so much to live for and through all my family and friends who supported me, I was able to keep my spirits up hoping for that miracle.
