Hello Friends and Family! Thank you for visiting my Lung Force page! It came as a huge surprise to everyone when I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer on December 28th. As a healthy, active never-smoker, my risk was minimal. The last four months have been filled with countless appointments, procedures and prayers. Thankfully we received confirmation this week that my treatment is working and my tumors are shrinking.
My oncologist has warned me that my current treatment (targeted gene therapy) will only work for an indeterminate amount of time. The cancer is sneaky and persistent, so I am facing a life-long fight. That's why research into new treatments is so critical for people like me. Lung cancer does not receive the funding that other cancers receive. It is largely perceived as a smoker's disease and one that could have been prevented. I'm here to testify that anyone can get lung cancer. In fact, 20% of all lung cancer cases are found in non-smokers. Even more scary, lung cancer is on the rise in young non-smoking women and scientists and doctors don't know why.
I would love to have you join my team, Kae's Cancer Kickers, on June 1st. We will be walking together to bring attention to lung diseases. If you are unable to walk with me, I would be incredibly grateful for any donation that you can make. Funding for research into treatments can save lives like mine. I'm fighting each day to be here for decades and am eternally grateful for your support and prayers. It all matters and makes a difference! Love, Kaelyn
