Dr. Ron Sanderson is a respiratory therapist, asthma educator, and life member of the American Association of Respiratory Care. He received a BS in Biology and Master’s of Education at the University of Oregon. He trained in respiratory care at Northeastern University and the University of Florida. His doctorate in public health is from the University of Hawaii. Ron founded two accredited schools of respiratory therapy; the one at Kapiolani Community College was assessed as the outstanding vocational program in the USA by the U.S. Department of Education.
He has made presentations locally, Nationally and internationally on ventilator automation and asthma education. Ron is an honorary member and counselor of the Japan Respiratory Care Network.
Ron recently retired as Director of Respiratory Care at Castle Medical Center and continues to provide education, consultation, and promotion of respiratory care with special interest in asthma management, patient safety and automation of mechanical ventilation through his consulting, Respiratory Center of Hawaii.
Ron has been involved with the American Lung Association in Hawaii for more than 40 years. Ron believes that during that time the Lung Association has done so much to improve lung health through quit smoking campaigns to asthma education and legislation. More recently Ron’s sister was motivated by his involvement in Lung Force to get a Low Dose CT Scan and get an upper hand on lung cancer.
