A few weeks ago, I found myself in the ER after passing out at the doctor with a fever that wouldn't break and a cough that hurt like hell. To my surprise, I had pneumonia and started IV antibiotics and fluids immediately. I don't think this is a medical term, but the doctor described my left lung as "obliterated."
Thankfully working for the American Lung Association, I know a decent amount about lung health, but it was comforting to know our website was one of the first to pop up when I googled pneumonia.
As an otherwise healthy 33-year-old, I have recovered quickly, but others are not so lucky. There are over 30 ways to contract pneumonia, and over 1 million people are diagnosed with pneumonia each year, with an average of 50,000 deaths due to complications.
The American Lung Association supports those who are impacted by lung diseases such as pneumonia, asthma, copd, covid, rsv, lung cancer and more, and supports research for groundbreaking treatments.
Please consider making a donation to my fundraising page for the LUNG FORCE Walk, which brings our community together for lung disease, and allows treatments to continue to advance.
I would greatly appreciate your support.
Thank you.
