Despite having never smoked a thing in my life and not being regularly exposed to secondhand smoke, last year, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer. While my primary tumor was in my lung, the cancer metastasized in my brain and bones. The bone mets were so numerous and painful that I had impending fractures in my hips and back, confining me to a wheelchair. I've worked hard to go from being in a wheelchair to using a cane to now walking on my own. To walk alongside fellow warriors and supporters like you (virtually for now) is a celebration of how far I've come and a real way to support the research and development that can prolong lives like mine and others impacted by lung cancer, the #1 cancer killer of women and men. We've got no time to waste. We must advocate hard and fast.
Last Jan. 26 was such a fun, memorable day--a blessing to have so many family members and friends join TEAM FRANCINE for San Diego's Lung Force Walk. Together, we completed the 5k route and went far beyond our original fundraising goal. In fact, we raised almost $8,000, making TEAM FRANCINE a "TOP TEAM!" My lifeline is a type of targeted therapy, a.k.a. oral chemotherapy. My hope is that we can raise funds so 1. Similar medicine will be available to other cancer patients, helping alleviate the side effects and challenges associated with traditional chemotherapy and other treatments, and 2. Advances will be made in the development of medicine to support those who develop a resistance to currently available treatments.
Please donate as you can. I'll make sure to keep you posted with more details and even upload fun appreciation posts to say "Thank you, Thank YOU, THANK YOU!" Your support means the world to me. Maraming salamat po. Kaya natin 'to! Love, Francine
