I am once again asking (as I do every year) for you to take a few moments to donate $100 or more to the American Lung Association, now celebrating its 120th year as the trusted public health organization focused on better lung health for all Americans and for which I have been a devoted volunteer/Board member since 2006.
Help me support meaningful Advocacy, ground-breaking Research and important/life-saving programs (such as Saved by the Scan which helps tobacco users get access to lung cancer screenings early and often).
Here are a few recent examples where the ALA spends your money:
$25M COVID Action Initiative – Key Area is to Support Research
- 24 COVID-19 Grants: which range from molecular analysis of antibody responses to reducing community spread of COVID-19 in vulnerable communities.
- Enabling the Airways Clinical Research Centers to support COVID-19 research.
- Partnering with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to fund research projects around the phenomenon of Long COVID.
- Lung Health Cohort Supplement, aiming to determine the impact of sociodemographic characteristics and health behaviors on COVID-19 infection.
More Research
- The Lung Association’s Lung Health Cohort Study is launched and is the first-ever large-scale lung health study that will track 4,000 young adults (ages 25-35) at the age of peak lung health. Scientists across the country will follow these millennials to evaluate how their environment, lifestyle, and physical activity habits affect respiratory health.
Community Support in Schools
- The Vape-Free Schools Scholarship Fund is a new effort to fund schools’ implementation of Lung Association’s Vape-Free Schools Initiative, so that more kids can access cessation, support and education. The scholarship drive seeks to raise funds to give schools across the country access to online training and resources to help students quit vaping.
Unbiased Education
- Reached over 120 million people with trusted lung health and air quality information
Thank you very much for your support!
