Everyone who knows me, knows that on January 30, 2015, I lost my sister, my best friend, my everything to Lung Cancer. So it's no surprise that I am running in remembrance of Deb and others who suffer from lung cancer.
But did you also know that lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of women and men. Lung cancer kills more people than breast cancer, colon cancer and prostrate cancer combined. Yes, you read correctly. Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of EVERYONE and every cancer. 158,080 adults are expected to die from lung cancer in 2016. 890 of them will be from Nebraska.
What I don't understand is why lung cancer doesn't get the same recognition, awareness and financial support as breast cancer. Every October, everything gets painted pink and the media coverage is non-stop the entire month. Why isn't November given the same treatment as breast cancer. I truly believe that if lung cancer screenings were part of our annual check-ups and you were reminded to have one done, just like mammograms, then my sister Deb would still be here with us.
You can support me in this effort by donating today. Your generosity would mean so much to me and all those who benefit from the work of the American Lung Association.
Lung cancer needs to be caught early and your donation would help fund research and provide education and advocacy efforts. One step at a time, you can help me run for a better tomorrow.

Together we can fight lung cancer successfully!
