For more than 15 years, a group of people in the Greater Portland region have been gathering on Thursday evenings in the summer to cycle 25 miles, followed by a communal dinner made from fresh, in-season, local foods. Members of this Ride 'n Dine group take turns hosting the weekly event: setting the route, providing the post-ride beverages and making the dinner's main dish. The others in the group, having listed on a Google doc what they will contribute to the week's meal, bring an appetizer, salad, side dish, or dessert. In the 150 Ride 'n Dine evenings to date, there hasn't been a single evening when participants have gone home hungry or dispirited. Instead, Ride 'n Dine has expanded its cycling to include weekend and multiday trips throughout Maine and beyond, and has added hiking, skiing, and paddling to its shared activities. Along the way, we have become fierce and loyal friends.
Marguerite "Peggy" Pennoyer, M.D., a long time Ride 'n Diner, is a board certified allergist and immunologist, with a medical practice in Scarborough. She serves on the board of the American Lung Association. After decades of treating patients with compromising lung conditions, Peggy is retiring this summer.
Please join the Ride 'n Dine team in honoring Peggy and others who work to improve air quality and the lives of people with breathing problems in Maine. You can make a donation to any team member by clicking on their name, and you'll be taken to their personal page.
