As many of you know, I lost my father November, 2022. My wife, Leslie, and I are training for the Trek Across Maine, a 3 day, 180 mile bike ride in Maine. As I ride many hours training, I become quite aware of my breathing, and often think about those in my family who have suffered with lung disease, including asthma, COPD, and lung cancer. My thoughts inevitably turn to my father. Towards the end of his life, I witnessed him struggling to breathe. With my family I sat vigil through the night, listening to him fight for air, with the background flow of oxygen and the beep of machines. It was a tough night, for both him, and those watching at his side feeling helpless. Nobody should have to experience shortness of breath like that. And no one should have to witness somebody they love going though such suffering. I signed up for the Trek across Maine to do something in his memory. I am raising funds for the American Lung Association, whose mission is to creat a world free of lung disease through education, research, and advocacy.
My ask is for you to do something. Donate on my trek page, donate to someone else’s trek page, donate to the American Lung Association directly for a reason that personally moves you, participate in an American Lung Association event yourself, ride in the trek or do a stair climb event, or even just help someone suffering from lung disease. Just take some action; it will help make the world a better place.
Thank you in advance for you support!
