I am joining thousands of other cyclists and the American Lung Association to raise money to fight lung disease and increase awareness about the importance of lung health.
Lung disease can take someone's breath away, leaving them unable to work, exercise or play. Growing faster than almost any other major illness, lung disease (including lung cancer, asthma and emphysema) is the third leading cause of the death in the United States.
Personally, this ride means so much to me. I have never done any fundraising as an adult so I am excited to do something truly worthwhile and with cause. I am stepping into a realm where I have never been before and I feel I am fortunate enough to be in a position to do so.
There are many reasons why I am moving forward with this. One reason is that lung cancer took my dad away from us more than 15 years ago and I want to give back to those who helped him when he needed it most. Emphysema also took away my grandfather when I was in my mid 20's. These men are on my mind now as I train and will be as I make my trek.
If I was asked to ride 3 years ago there would be NO WAY I could. I was not in any type of physical condition to ride a bike. My health was poor and my asthma condition was out of control. I am in a much better place now and look forward to the challenge of a 25 mile ride. Who knows, perhaps next year I can do 50!
Please join me in my efforts to make a difference by making a personal or corporate tax-deductible donation. You won't regret it.
Thank you in advance for you support!
