I am joining thousands of other cyclists and the American Lung Association to raise money to fight lung disease and increase awareness about the importance of lung health.
Lung disease can take someone's breath away, leaving them unable to work, exercise or play. Growing faster than almost any other major illness, lung disease, including lung cancer, asthma and emphysema is the third leading cause of the death in the United States.
I've seen this first hand with my father. After decades of tobacco use, COPD greatly impacted the final 20 years of his life - from multiple hospital visits to missed events and opportunities with his grandkids. In January 2021, the day before he was scheduled to receive the COVID vaccine he tested positive in a rehab facillity where he had been discharged after a recent hospital stay. Due to the years of lung damage, he quickly progressed and was transferred to the ICU and placed on a ventillator where he ultimately succumbed to COVID on January 15th.
After volunteering at the Trek Across Maine for the past two years, my 11 year old son has decided he wants to join the riders and cycle 180 miles over 3 days next year. On Father's Day 2023 we started our "training" and in 2024 we will cycle in honor of my father. I have set our fundraising goal at $1,945 in honor of the year dad was born and hope to exceed that mark!
Please join me in my efforts to make a difference by making a personal or corporate tax-deductible donation.
Thank you in advance for you support!
