What an incredibly challenging time in history.
The unprecedented scope of the COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated previously unthinkable societal changes worldwide, seeking to slow the spread of the deadly Corona virus. With more than 100,000 lost souls in the United States already, social distancing and the wearing of masks is now the new normal. And while work routines, social interactions and activities no longer resemble anything in our past, each of us is called upon to do our part as the world seeks out solutions for all of humanity.
I have been a dedicated supporter of the American Lung Association(ALA) via their annual Trek Across Maine cycling fundraiser as both a cycling participant, Team Captain for Slowriders and as a volunteer on the Trek Safety Patrol. The ALA is a leading nonprofit organization working to save lives, improve lung health and prevent lung disease. In this greatest time of need, the ALA is working tirelessly to raise the critical funds needed right now for the incredibly important research for COVID-19 treatments and a vaccine. I support the ALA in memory of both my parents and so many others ravaged by lung disease and lung cancer.
With social distancing practices now in effect for everyone’s health and safety, the ALA has opted to hold the 2020 Trek Across Maine in a virtual format. Riders will complete any riding in a safe manner, following strict healthy distancing guidelines, before a June 30th deadline. My current 2020 mileage now exceeds 350 miles, all done in with safe distancing.
The success of the Trek Across Maine fundraising depends on the generosity of individuals, each contributing what they can to the ALA. I ask for your help to fund the crucial work being done by the ALA. There may never be a more critical time than right now. Please help.
