I reflect on the many years I have participated with the American Lung Association's Trek Across Maine and marvel that I have 7 years' experience. I am still befuddled to think this all began because I had a bucket list. This year's ride, ride #8, has a new sense of excitement not just for the riders but for the organizers as well. New route, new locations, new adventure! I hope you'll support me in this venture that has the potential to break me (some of the hills on the topographic map are downright frightening!!!).
As I mentioned earlier, the 2019 ride will be my 8th year participating, and my enthusiasm is no less today than it was when I pushed off on my bike leaving the base lodge at Sunday River in one of the first waves down the hill. Each year has brought with it a set of challenges health-wise and strength-wise, and I have learned that it doesn't matter how you climb each hill or get across the finish line - it's the thought, energy and effort you give in each and every single thing you do. I learn this with each passing year, making new friends along the way. The positive energy and camaraderie are what keep me goinig back year after year.
I will join cyclists, young and old, in a three day, 180-mile adventure, rain or shine (and sometimes even blistering heat), raising money to fight lung disease and increase awareness about the importance of lung health. Lung disease can take your breath away, leaving you unable to work, exercise or play. Growing faster than almost any other major illness, lung disease, including lung cancer, asthma, and emphysema, is the third leading cause of death in the United States.
So many people have helped me in my fundraising efforts and without their support, this would not be possible. Please join me to make a difference. Your contribution is tax-deductible. Any donation, large or small, will help me meet my lofty fundraising goals. Donations are easy: make your check payable to the American Lung Association and mail directly to me, or visit my personal webpage link to make an online contribution. I sincerely appreciate your support and thank you in advance for your donation!
