Trek Across Maine 2019
Cherylyn and I will soon be cycling in our tenth Trek Across Maine. The ride usually takes place over Father’s Day weekend and has in the past had almost 2000 riders and hundreds of volunteers. This year will be a lot different. As with most other events involving large numbers of people, the coronavirus pandemic has forced a big change of plans.
For the health of the participants, spectators and volunteers, the American Lung Association has decided to adjust plans for this year’s physical Trek Across Maine. The 2020 Trek is now a virtual event. Riders will still raise funds to support ALA. This year instead of riding together over the three-weekend, each rider picks their own individual mileage goal (60, 120, 180 miles) and rides on their own (hence the virtual part) from now through June 30th. I’m planning on riding the whole 180 miles.
We have committed to join many other cyclists and the American Lung Association in this virtual journey while raising money to support the fight against lung cancer, COPD, Asthma, other serious lung diseases, and now COVID-19 and to increase awareness about the importance of lung health.
Lung disease has hit both of our families pretty hard, so this ride is personal for us. I ride in memory of my Dad, Mal, and my sister, Sue, both of whom battled lung disease. Cherylyn rides in memory of her Mom, Joyce, who fought a lifelong battle with asthma.
Please join me in my efforts to remember my Dad and sister and help in the fight against lung disease by making a tax-deductible donation to this great cause. You can donate on-line by clicking on the "Donate Now" button or by sending a check made payable to the American Lung Association to me at Tom Brubaker, 6 Iroquois Circle, Brunswick, ME 04011-7435.
Thank you for your support!
