Welcome to Allan and Kathy’s 2019 TREK Page:
We are again participating in the “Trek Across Maine”, a 180 mile cycling event on June 14-16, 2019 that funds the American Lung Association. American Lung Association raises money to support the fight against lung cancer, COPD, Asthma and other serious lung diseases. Allan will ride and Kathy will provider volunteer support along the ride.
2019 is a special ride for us because it coincides with our 50th Anniversary. It is especially fun to have our grandchildren Anders and Thora support us.
We ride with a group of dedicated riders as part of the McPhed’s Trekkers. This Readfield Maine based team was originally formed in memory of David McPhedran, a teacher and mentor to many children at Maranacook High School, including our children Jess and Will. David set an example of taking measured risks for important outdoor experiences. That example continues with Jessica’s work in Denali NP and Will’s work in public TV science reporting.
We also participate in memory of Kathy Record, a close friend who supported the riders in previous Treks.
Not only do we enjoy the trip around Maine but we ride to benefit clean air for everyone. All the more important when the direction of this federal administration is contrary to this obvious vital cause. Over two thousand riders will make a statement about clean air.
You can join us as we travel thinking of the future of our grandchildren and all other children.
Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer and lung disease is the third leading cause of death in the United States.
So getting to the fundraising part of the letter. Any amount, no matter the amount is appreciated, my goal is $800.
Please make a donation on line: https://action.lung.org/site/TR?fr_id=17635&pg=entry
Thank you and we hope to see you on the road in person or virtually.
