This June 2023, I will join hundreds of other cyclists and the American Lung Association in a journey across Maine while raising money to fight lung disease and increase awareness about the importance of lung health. This will be my 26th TREK Across Maine and I feel very fortunate to still be able physically to do the ride at the age of 76. I'll be riding with my son-in-law and Grandson this year. We have been training as regularly as possible and hopefully will be in good shape for the 180 miles by mid June. The American Lung Association works to educate the population and lobby for laws that promote clean air in our atmosphere as well as in our homes and places of work. The ALA also works to educate about the increasing adverse effects of climate change.
Lung disease can take someone's breath away, leaving that person unable to work, exercise or play. Growing faster than almost any other major illness, lung disease, including lung cancer, asthma and emphysema is the third leading cause of the death in the United States.
