This June, I will join thousands of other cyclists and the American Lung Association in a journey across Maine while raising money to fight lung disease and increase awareness about the importance of lung health. This will be my 21st TREK Across Maine and I feel very fortunate to still be able physically to do the ride at the age of 71. Among the 14 employees of the insulation / weatherization business (R. H. Price & Co. Inc,) that I owned for 37 years, 9 were smokers. Over the years I had hoped to inspire at least some of them to quit but to no avail. Several tried but failed. They were truly addicted to the nicotine and the habit and every one of them started as a teenager. It is so important to reach youngsters before they start and this is the kind of work the Lung Association does. Of course the Lung Association also works to educate the population and lobby for laws that promote clean air in our atmosphere as well as in our homes and places of work. Working to educate about asthma and supporting families dealing with asthma is also part of the mission.
Lung disease can take someone's breath away, leaving that person unable to work, exercise or play. Growing faster than almost any other major illness, lung disease, including lung cancer, asthma and emphysema is the third leading cause of the death in the United States.
Please join me in my efforts to make a difference by making a personal or corporate tax-deductible donation.
Thank you in advance for you support!
