Ten years, almost 2000 miles of riding for the American Lung Association events, around 15,000 miles of training and over $125,000 raised together for the Trek Across Maine: they all just seem like numbers until you think about the commitment we have all made along the way to improve lung health. This is a special year for me and the Trek, as it will be my 10th year riding in honor of my mother and the 35th year the Trek has been held. I am excited to be able to continue participating in such a great cause. This year my lovely wife, Paige, will be volunteering on the Trek, so it will be a family affair and special event. With your support and commitment, I hope we can raise over $20,000 this season.
My mother’s courageous battle with COPD has been, and will always be, my inspiration for this event. Once again, I will proudly be wearing participant #608 to honor my mother’s birthday of June 8th. For an exciting new twist, the Trek will follow a new 180 mile route that travels past the coast, rivers, mountains, and lakes of Maine to celebrate its 35th year and attract more riders than ever. I am greatly looking forward to the challenge!
Each year, I am extremely moved by just how many family members and friends have a heartbreaking situation of a loved one afflicted by lung disease. Consequently, once again, I will carry a printed card with the names and dedications from my donors for loved ones they wished to honor. I am continuously touched and humbled to receive such a huge outpouring of so many moving stories and lovely memories. If you would like me to carry one for you, please send me his or her name and any message you wish and I will gladly carry it for the 180 miles.
Please help me to reach my 2019 fundraising goal of $20,000 by making a tax-deductible contribution in support of my ride. Any donation you make will be much appreciated. There is no pressure to pledge, as there are a lot of causes and we simply can’t give to them all. I welcome any pledge amount if you are inclined to contribute. The ride takes place from June 14th through June 16th. The American Lung Association is asking for pledges by June 13th if possible, but they are welcomed through the end of July.
Thank you in advance for your kind consideration of my request. I truly appreciate all your help and best wishes…as I need all the help and luck I can get.
With Warmest Regards,
Shawn L. Sabine
