Every Mile Counts

Autumn Escape Bike TrekFor the experienced and novice cyclist alike, the Autumn Escape Bike Trek is a fully-supported 1, 2 or 3-day bike tour across stunning Cape Cod complete with scenic views, a lobster dinner, beer from Mayflower Brewing and more.

This year, we celebrate 35 years of the bike trek’s support for the 35 million Americans suffering from lung diseases like COPD, asthma and lung cancer, the #1 cancer killer in the United States. As cyclists, you know how important it is to have healthy lungs and clean air to breathe. By joining us and hundreds of others for the Autumn Escape Bike Trek, you’ll be supporting life-saving research, education for patients and families, and advocacy for clean air and protection for the public from harmful air pollution.

Thank you for supporting healthy lungs and clean air, because - when you can’t breathe, nothing else matters.

Safety Procedures & Support Services

The Autumn Escape Bike Trek is a fully-supported ride with medics, bike mechanics, and SAG vehicles available at the camps and along the route throughout the weekend.

Mechanical

It is an excellent idea to get your bike tuned up a few weeks before the ride. The Trek is not the time to try out a brand new bike or make major modifications to the one you have. Mechanics along the route will provide basic repairs, but trekkers may be asked to pay for parts. Please carry some basic tools and equipment for minor repairs such as a flat tire.

Medical

Volunteer medical personnel will be on-hand to provide basic medical services. If necessary, support vehicles will provide transportation for medical care. Local emergency transportation will be called for more serious cases. You will be responsible for the cost of medical care and transportation beyond the services provided by our volunteer medical personnel.

Communications

A communications system using cell phones will enable riders to call event staff for support and/or transportation and will allow for family at home to contact you in the event of an emergency. We recommend you always carry your own, fully-charged cell phone.

Route Support & Sweep

Volunteer personnel are available along the route each day of the ride. They are there to assist trekkers and to make sure the route is safe and well-marked. If you see a marked Trek support vehicle and require assistance, please raise your hand high with a closed fist. If you just wave, the road crew will most likely wave back and keep going. Please do not deviate from the route as the sweep captain must stay behind the last rider.

Rest Stops

Three rest stops are located every 10-15 miles along the route each day. Rest stops include snacks, beverages and restrooms.

Children

Since safety is a priority, as of January 1, 2010, children under the age of 7 cannot participate in the Trek. Children between the ages of 7-12 MUST ride on a tandem bike or tag-a-long and all children under 18 must have an adult guardian (limit three children supervised per adult). Children ages 7-17, must fundraise the required minimums.
