Ever since my friend, Phoebe, got me into biking (lent me her bike for three years/since the summer of my freshman year of college) and see how many impactful things she did with biking. Things like the BOLD scholarship project about women in biking & even biking across the country the summer she graduated. She is an amazing and inspirational friend. She even nominated me for both programs after she did it.
I have a relationship with biking...
I used it to go to work, class, and marching band practices. I am always rushing everywhere on campus with it.
Then after I tore my ACL, biking is the first thing I got back to. Cuz it helps with mobility and strength without putting stress on the knee.
Then it got really, really serious last summer when I finally was instructed to build my quad to get back to normal strength. My doctor and PT told me to bike as much as I could. So I started to bike for thirty minutes to come to campus from the farm (where I live), to PT and the gym, under the scalding sun and hot weather. At first took forever and I really wanted to take a break and drink water. Then I continued to go to the gym and bike to the farm every week and it got a little easier every time. Now I LOVE biking and decided to do this.
I am joining thousands of other cyclists and the American Lung Association to raise money to fight lung disease and increase awareness about the importance of lung health. Lung disease grows faster than almost any other major illness, including lung cancer, asthma, and emphysema (which is the third leading cause of death in the United States)
To be honest, I was very selfish when I signed up to fundraise for it. Because I just want to bike and it is required for the event. But then I realized the mission of this organization and was impacted by how they put together this big event every year to save lives and improve the research in lung health. I also realized that COVID-19 is considered a lung infection. Many of you may know that I am from Wuhan, China. So I have seen first hand the changes in my family and people in China. The videos of non-stop cremation ovens, the volunteers disinfecting the city, and the fear of the disease…So I wish more research and humans are working together.
Please join me in my efforts to make a difference by making a personal or corporate tax-deductible donation. (I need to raise $550 to join this event, very appreciate your support ヾ(o′▽`o)ノ谢谢)
Thank you in advance! I am excited and will keep you updated.
