We all know that there's strength in numbers, so we'll ride together fighting lung disease and increasing awareness about the importance of lung health.
Last year (2018) we were Team Strong4Jon. This year, we are Team Strong4Jon/Heroes4Higa! In case you don't know the back story, here is a smidge. Jon Emerick. Officer Jon Emerick. Seattle Police Officer Jon Emerick. Husband. Father. Brother. Uncle. Grandfather. Friend. Jon was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer 3.5 years ago. Jon fought a long & courageous battle against the lung cancer beast, one in which continues to inspire us and others. Sadly, we lost Jon in May of this year. Our hearts are broken. By his side the ENTIRE time was his family and his best friend, Seattle Police Detective Randy Higa. These two were work partners, best friends and made up the call sign.......3N04 (3-NORA-04). Randy was with Jon through all of his treatments, assisted him at the house, took him to appointments etc.... Randy was there for Jon through the thick of it....always.
Unbelieveably, shortly after losing Jon (VERY shortly), Randy learned that he too had lung cancer. WHAT!? How does that happen!? This left us all absolutely speechless. After many doctors apptointments, Sandra (Randy's wife) let us know that he was a candidate for surgery. YAY! Surgery & chemo....doeable and GREAT NEWS! Surgery turned out to bit more complicated than initally expected, but things are looking up for the HIGA family!
We ride to show the Emerick's and the Higa's how much they are loved, and to our fellow officers, it's the Thin Blue Line.
We ride to raise money for The American Lung Association. Without them, finding a cure would be incredibly difficult, if not impossible.
